Simulation Conversation Aid Autism Patients

Friday, January 4, 2013

Methods have been discovered in assisting the adult autistic patients with simulated conversations. In this method, the patient will interact with a virtual partner to develop social interaction skills better.

More than half of people diagnosed with autism have normal intellectual abilities, but they often have trouble interacting in a social environment such as conversing with others.

Cheryl Trepagnier and Corinne Bell of The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC, and Dale Olsen and Laura Boteler of SIMmersion LLC, Columbia, did research to help adults with autism using a simulated conversation.

Their results showed that adults with autism who participated in the conversation simulation program responded positively about the method. They support the quality and benefits of simulation.

In this same study, researchers created an environment in which participants with autism interacting with a virtual partner. They were given the option of dialogue on the screen and initiate, maintain and conclude a pleasant conversation on a variety of topics. The findings are presented in Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking March 2011 edition.

Testosterone Levels Affected by Autism

Wednesday, January 2, 2013

A study by Professor Fiona Stanley's Telethon Institute of Australia found that exposure to high levels of testosterone in the womb may increase the risk of autism in infants.

It was also found that girls with symptoms of autism at 2 years of age will experience their first menstruation six months earlier. The result is known after a study of 383 young women who are diagnosed with autism. At the age of 2 years, every child is given assessment autistic behavior such as avoiding the gaze of others.

"These findings suggest that exposure to testosterone in the womb role in regulating behavior, both autism and age of first menstruation.," Said lead researcher Andrew Whitehouse. He added that these results support the theory that autism is a behavioral disorder and an extreme form of male psyche.

"Autism is a condition that is actually dominated by men. Counted, the proportion of people men and women that is 4:1," he said, as quoted by The Australian, Monday (7/2).

However, in women, is a possible cause of male hormone levels are too much in this case the most biologically active is testosterone. "Tim Whitehouse are now planning to hold the first study to identify a link between hormones and autism tendencies.

Smile Indicate Potential Autism

Sunday, December 30, 2012

A smile or a frown on the forehead can be an indicator in identifying families at high risk of autism, according to a study held by the Medical Research Council.

People with autism often find it difficult to read other people's emotions and their facial expressions were not different from autism. Now, researchers at the University of Cambridge found that the sibling with autism show the same brain patterns when looking at facial expressions.

As quoted from Yahoo, Tuesday (12/7), whose findings were published in the journal Translational Psychiatry, could help scientists identify gene linked to autism risk.

Michael Spencer, who led the research, said, "These findings provide a springboard to investigate what specific genes are associated with markers of autism. Brain response to facial emotion could be a benchmark indicating autism."

The study compared 40 families with both teen and his brother were not autistic. By comparing brain activity when viewing neutral versus happy faces, scientists can observe the brain areas that respond to emotion. Although people with autism do not have a diagnosis of autism or Asperger's syndrome, they have decreased activity in various brain areas.

In families that have at least one child with autism, autism potential for developing the next child at least 20 times higher. Unfortunately, the reason behind it can not be unknown.

Put your child with Autism Melatonin

Friday, December 28, 2012

SUPPLEMENTS low doses of melatonin may help children with autism to get a better night's sleep. Another benefit of these supplements do not cause any side effects so that parents can continue to use as necessary.

This statement is based on the findings of researchers from the Sleep Disorders Center at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn. 11 children with autism aged 4-10 asleep faster with longer sleep duration when given low doses of melatonin supplements.

According to study leader Beth Malow, MD, the study was inspired by previous studies that have found that 70% of children with autism experience sleep disturbances and studies show that melatonin deficiency (the body's natural sleep hormone) is a cause of sleep disturbance. Melatonin, light malow, is a hormone secreted at night by the pineal gland in the brain. Melatonin is believed to control the sleep cycle, which is often impaired in the elderly and children with autism.

Good sleep habits

In a study presented at the annual meeting of the American Neurological Association, the Malow and his team studied the effects of melatonin supplementation in 11 children with autism who was still awake at least 30 minutes a night, three nights a week, before falling asleep.

Parents are also asked to attend educational programs about good sleep habits. They are trained to ensure that their children maintain a bedtime routine, such as going to bed at the same time every night. And if the kids awake at night, parents should guide them back to bed, do not let them sleep on the father and mother.

Later, the children are given melatonin in liquid form (as a lot of children with autism who have difficulty swallowing pills), half an hour before going to bed, every night. The dose is increased every 3 weeks until the children are able to sleep within 30 minutes after hours of sleep at least 5 nights a week.

So far, the light Malow, 11 children have completed the first phase of the study lasted for 4 months. After making supplementation for 16 weeks, the average time they take to fall asleep dropped from 38 minutes to 22 minutes. Of 11 children, bright Malow, 3 children can succeed overnight with 1 milligram of melatonin, 6 requires 3 milligrams, and only 2 children who need 6 milligrams.

"They sleep longer, and parents report claimed not face much problem to invite children to sleep," Malow said, as quoted by WebMD site. In addition, continued Malow, children also show fewer behavior at will commonly experienced by children with autism.

Mother 40 Years Children born Autism Risk

Wednesday, December 26, 2012

RESEARCHER University of California found that older mothers more likely to have autistic children than women who give birth at a younger age.

risk of autism..Researchers examined the records of data from nearly 5 million children in California during 1990 and 1999. In this period, the incidence of autism increased by 600 percent statewide.

The study found that every age of five years, the risk of women having a child with autism increased by 18 percent. That is, women who gave birth at age 40 or over 50 percent greater risk of having a child with autism than women who gave birth at the age between 25 and 29, and a 77 percent greater risk of having a child with autism than women who give birth before age 25.

Unlike previous studies that showed an increased risk of older fathers have the child with autism, this study found no association between autism and paternal age, except for one exception, the older man has a child with a much younger wife.

risk of autism..Men over the age of 40 who have children with women under the age of 30 60 percent greater risk of having a child with autism than men aged 25 to 29 who have a child with a young woman.

However, maternal age was not the only factor that triggers a child with autism. Geraldine Dawson of Autism Speaks praised the researchers for using so much data to reveal the effect of parental age on the risk of autism. However, he also warned that mothers need not worry.

"We need to see these findings as a whole," said Dawson, quoted by healthday.com site. "This study is important, but the increase in cases of autism is not only caused by one factor alone. We will find other factors, and maternal age are more old is one among many factors. "

Enzyme Therapy Effective for Children Autism

Monday, December 24, 2012

IN the last five years, enzyme therapy is one of the highly effective treatment of autism. This therapy is done with the advanced treatment of the digestive system, nervous, and immune systems are then connected with the use of a particular enzyme.

Most children with autism have difficulty eating some foods, such as milk, and often problematic in the digestive system. To overcome this, there are some products that contain protease enzymes, one that DPP IV is capable of breaking down dairy and gluten proteins.

Unlike other drug therapy, enzyme therapy has been rapid and inexpensive, especially his recovery rate is high. The results can be seen immediately during the first four weeks of using only one bottle. Although this treatment can be fairly successfully by using a specific enzyme, in fact, some children with autism have the same cure rate after using a special enzyme product for the digestive system by adding carbohydrates and fats into kandugan protein.

If you are planning to enzyme therapy, determine the first category. Does your child have trouble digesting protein and thus require protease, amylase needed to break down carbohydrates, problems with candida yeast respond to enzyme digestion, or the difficulty of responding to the enzyme lactase and DPP IV in dairy products. Determine the most appropriate category for your child and choose the most appropriate enzymes. Most families with children who have developmental delays tend to get best results by using any of the products at every meal time with a protease product.

Many children with autism also have problems with candida fungus or bacteria present in the gut. To fix this, choose a repellent products that contain high fiber to eliminate the fungus in the bowel wall. Products must also contain high levels of proteases to reduce pathogenic bacteria to clean even the dead. Consider combining a powerful herbal supplement tackle bacteria such as grape seed extract or oregano to the content Enzyme synergistic effect. Behind the efficacy, mechanism of enzyme therapy for children with autism actually provide treatment based on, not only the symptoms but also the cause.

Detection Voice Recorder Help Autistic Children

Saturday, December 22, 2012

A recent study shows that analysis using the soundtrack from a video recording system intended for small children could help researchers to identify children with autism.

"This application makes it possible to monitor the progress of development in a way that completely objective," said Dr. D. Kimbrough Oller, a professor at the Universty of Memphis, as quoted from page Healthday.com.

In that study, Oller and his team in his breast pocket recorder embedding children's clothing. Audio devices to record all the activities the children are in the natural environment throughout the day.

Oller with her team analyzed nearly 1,500 recorded soundtrack of the total 232 children aged ten months to four years.

Then, the system automatically separates voice from the children and the environment around them. The sounds and utterances are classified and assessed using established guidelines on the development of the theory of vocals.

From there, the researchers will be found consistent differences between children and those who previously had been diagnosed with autism or those with language delay. They can also predict the development of the normal child's age.

So what's different between the groups - the group? "The biggest difference is the extent to which children seem to display properly preparing syllables," Oller said.

This research has been published in the online edition of the National Academy of Sciences on July 19 to 23 editions.

One expert called the new research is very promising. "We are at an early stage to see this discovery as a way to detect people with autism," said the chief science officer for Autism Speaks Geraldine Dawson.

"I think this is very promising, but it would be more important if it can continue to study and replicate these findings," he added.

Dawson also said that one plus the value of the audio device is that it can be used at home without going to the hospital. "Not all children on the autism spectrum experience language delays. Vast majority of children with autism have shown some delay in language or early vocalization," Uajr Dawson.

"This could potentially be used for a screening tool," he added.

Before using this application, Dawson said that an analysis of the use vocalizations as observational way.

According to him, the experts agreed that many children who go on to develop autism attitude that experienced delays in conducting initial vocalizations.

"After using this system, the results of the analysis will be more objective," said Dawson.

For the record, according to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about one in 110 children in the United States today have suffered from autism. The report notes that a variety of disorders includes the development of communication, social and behavioral.
